Pricing your menu for delivery apps vs your own ordering page
Updated 2026-10-27
A A$30 delivery order on a 30% commission earns you A$21 before food, packaging and wages. That's why many Australian venues charge more on the apps. See the Uber Eats and DoorDash commission report for every rate and its source.
A worked example
A large pizza costs A$7 in ingredients and packaging and sells for A$24 at the counter. At 30% app commission, you keep A$16.80, a gross margin of A$9.80. On your own page with 0% commission, you keep A$24, less card fees of roughly 2%, which is about A$16.50 margin. Raising the app price to A$28 brings the app margin back to about A$12.60.
Approaches that work
- Counter prices on your own page, higher on the apps. Simple and fair, and it nudges customers direct.
- Exclusive deals on your own page: meal deals and specials only available direct.
- Free pickup, priced delivery on your own page, charged by zone.
Check your agreement
Read your current app agreement for any rules on menu prices before you change anything.
Run your numbers in the commission calculator.
To keep lower prices direct, you need a direct ordering page with 0% commission. Compare Uber Eats alternatives and flat-fee pricing.

Frequently asked questions
How much higher should app prices be?
Work it out from your commission rate and food cost. Many venues add 15–25% on the apps. Test, and watch order volume.
