Menulog has closed: a guide for Australian restaurants a year on

Updated 2026-10-27

When did Menulog close, and why?

Menulog stopped accepting orders from midnight on Wednesday 26 November 2025. Its owner, Just Eat Takeaway.com (bought by Prosus in 2025), announced the exit on 12 November 2025. It said Menulog had been "navigating challenging circumstances" and that the decision reflected a "focus on accelerating growth and investments in other markets" (JET newsroom). Industry analysts quoted by the ABC pointed to falling market share and years of losses against Uber Eats and DoorDash. About 120 staff were affected. Our commission report lists each app's published Australian rate, with links.

For twenty years Menulog was one of the big three delivery apps in Australia. On 26 November 2025 it stopped taking orders, and Menulog customers were redirected to Uber Eats. If you were a Menulog restaurant, this guide looks at where things stand nearly a year later, and how to stop being exposed to the next change.

What happened

What the remaining apps charge

From the published Australian merchant pricing pages, checked on 27 October 2026:

They deliverYou deliverPickup
Uber Eats30%16%8%
DoorDash30%15% (12% with DashPass)15%

Promoted listings, ads and offers add to those rates. With Menulog gone, two companies now carry most app delivery in Australia, and venues have less room to negotiate.

The real lesson: the customer list closed with the app

Menulog restaurants lost more than an ordering channel. Every customer who ordered through Menulog was Menulog's customer: the names, phone numbers and order history went with the app. Venues that had their own ordering page and customer list could simply message their regulars. Those that didn't had to start again.

A plan that works with the apps, not against them

  1. Keep one delivery app for discovery. New customers in your area still browse Uber Eats and DoorDash. Treat the commission as a marketing cost for first orders.
  2. Open your own ordering page for pickup and, if you can, your own delivery. Every repeat order there costs no commission.
  3. Move regulars across. Put a "next time, order direct" card with a QR code in every app bag. Offer something small for a first direct order.
  4. Own the Google search. Put your own link in the Google Business Profile "Order online" field so people searching your name land on your page.
  5. Price sensibly. Many venues set app prices higher than in-store to cover commission. Your own page can match counter prices, which gives customers a reason to switch.
  6. Build your list. Every direct order adds a customer you can reach again by SMS or email at no cost per order.

The maths for a typical takeaway

Take an illustrative A$8,000 a month in app delivery orders at 30%: that's A$2,400 a month in commission, before ads. Moving a quarter of those orders to your own page saves about A$600 a month. Moving half saves about A$1,200. A flat-fee page like Chefzi costs a small fraction of that. Try your own numbers in the commission calculator.

If you also used GloriaFood

Many venues ran Menulog for delivery and GloriaFood for direct orders. GloriaFood is closing too (end of life 30 April 2027, or 31 March 2027 on one Oracle page). Fix both at once: see the GloriaFood migration guide.

If you used Menulog's own-delivery model, the closest match is a takeaway ordering system with your own drivers and a simple order-taking app. Read about Chefzi.
